Native vs Breakout Connectivity

Decide whether one port carries one link or divides into multiple lower-speed endpoints.

Overview

Breakout connectivity maps the electrical and optical lanes of a higher-speed port into multiple endpoints. The port mode, lane count, cable or optical topology and remote interfaces must agree.

Key planning checks

  • Confirm that the host supports the requested breakout mode.
  • Document the parent port rate and every child endpoint rate.
  • Preserve topology in DAC and AOC descriptions and lengths.
  • Match MPO fiber count, polarity and harness arrangement for parallel optics.

NRCube review note

Keep the unknowns visible

A cable that physically connects is not necessarily a supported breakout. Validate both hosts and the configured port mode.
