NRCube Pre-Quote Guide

Information Required for an Optical Quote

Provide the technical, operational and commercial context needed for a useful product recommendation and a clearer quotation.

More than a part number

A strong quote begins with a clearly defined link.

Preparing an accurate optical quotation requires more than a requested speed or product code. Equipment, port capability, cabling, distance, environment, compatibility and future growth can all affect the suitable choice.

Complete information reduces assumptions, supports compatibility review and improves turnaround. The objective is to identify a connectivity solution aligned with the technical requirement—not merely to price a superficially similar product.

Information typically required

Eight inputs that make the quotation more useful.

If an item is unknown, mark it as unknown. NRCube can help identify what must be clarified.

01

Equipment details

Identify exactly what is being connected.

  • Equipment manufacturer
  • Exact platform or line-card model
  • Port type and port quantity
  • Software version, where relevant
ExampleCisco Nexus 93180YC-FX3 · SFP28 ports · 24 links
02

Speed requirements

Define today's operating speed and the intended port mode.

  • 1G through 800G requirement
  • Native or breakout operation
  • Expected bandwidth growth
  • Planned migration speed
AskIs the link native, 4 × 25G, 4 × 100G, 8 × 50G or another supported mode?
03

Actual routed distance

Use the cable route rather than straight-line separation.

  • Rack-to-rack or row-to-row route
  • Building or campus route
  • Patch-panel and cross-connect path
  • Maximum link distance
Examples5 m · 30 m · 100 m · 500 m · 2 km · 10 km
04

Existing cabling infrastructure

Document the media and patching already in place.

  • Single-mode or multimode fiber
  • LC, MPO/MTP or RJ45 interface
  • Existing patch panels and trunks
  • New build or existing structured cabling
Why it mattersSelecting around usable infrastructure can reduce cost and simplify deployment.
05

Compatibility requirements

State the platform and interoperability expectations.

  • Both endpoint models
  • Required equipment-vendor compatibility
  • Cross-vendor interoperability
  • Existing qualification or approved standards
ImportantA matching speed or connector alone does not confirm compatibility.
06

Quantity requirements

Provide quantities by link or product wherever possible.

  • Number of complete links
  • Optics required at one or both ends
  • Cable or breakout quantities
  • Planned spares
Commercial planningQuantity supports availability, lead-time, project-size and commercial review.
07

Deployment environment

Describe where and under what conditions the products will operate.

  • Data center, campus, enterprise or service provider
  • Indoor, industrial or other environment
  • Temperature requirements
  • Applicable regulatory or environmental needs
ConfirmEnvironmental requirements may change the eligible product specification.
08

Project timeline

Share when the requirement must be available or deployed.

  • Immediate requirement
  • Target date or 30-day window
  • Next-quarter project
  • Annual rollout or future expansion
Planning valueTiming helps align the recommendation with availability and delivery expectations.

Optional information

Supporting material that improves accuracy.

These items are not mandatory, but they often reduce clarification cycles and expose missing links early.

01

Existing BOM

A current vendor, expansion, migration or project BOM can accelerate technical review and quantity reconciliation.

02

Network diagram

Even a simple drawing can clarify endpoints, distances, breakout modes, link types and installed infrastructure.

03

Existing part numbers

Known industry PIDs can accelerate equivalency review, while the platform and link details still confirm suitability.

How NRCube can help

From supplied requirement to a documented optical shortlist.

Product selection guidance

Review optical transceivers, DACs, AOCs, fiber connectivity and optical interconnect choices against the supplied requirement.

Compatibility review

Identify platform coding, interoperability, cross-vendor and migration considerations that require validation.

BOM review

Review equivalents, quantities, connectivity gaps and possible optimization opportunities in a supplied BOM.

Migration guidance

Consider practical paths such as 10G to 25G, 25G to 100G, 100G to 400G and 400G to 800G.

Connectivity recommendations

Compare DAC vs AOC, SMF vs MMF, LC vs MPO, breakout links, pluggable optics and structured cabling considerations.

Defined scope

Optical-connectivity expertise, not architecture ownership.

NRCube supports product selection and optical-connectivity review using customer-provided designs, equipment information and assumptions.

NRCube does not position itself as a data-center designer, AI-infrastructure designer, enterprise architecture consultant or telecom network designer.

Our focus

Helping customers select, document and validate suitable optical transceivers, cables, adapters and fiber-connectivity products for an existing or customer-defined requirement.

Optical quote checklist

Gather what is known. Keep what is unknown visible.

Use this checklist before opening the quote form. Checking a box is for your on-page preparation only; no information is transmitted until you submit the quote request.

The recommendation remains dependent on the accuracy and completeness of the customer-provided information and any required equipment-vendor confirmation.
